Plum skirt...Really it's just an excuse for me to wear orange tights.

I've been terrible at posting. I guess it doesn't really matter, though.

Anyway, I thought I would post pictures of this skirt I made.

I made this from Butterick B5466 and I added a lining. The first garment I made was from this pattern and it worked out way better. It was made from a much drapey-er fabric so it sat a lot nicer. But of course, it doesn't fit anymore.

The best part are the orange stockings with my cage heels.

I'm having a lot of trouble finding clothes that fit. I started biking in the summer and now my thighs are even bigger! All of my fall clothes from last year are too small.

I'm desperate for new clothes so it's a good motivator.

I'm trying to learn how to make pants. Part of the trouble is finding a pattern that I actually like, and the other problem is getting them to fit (I have what the fitting books describe as "protruding buttocks')

I've already made two muslins that I'm not happy with. I did manage to find pants that fit pretty good so I splurged and bought them ($275!) plus I got them altered ($50) but they fit like a dream. So now I have one pair of pants that are appropriate for work.

I found this youtube video that shows how to copy a pattern from an existing garment so I've made a pattern from my super expensive pants and I spent a good chunk of today leaning and practicing making welt pockets.

Hopefully I'll have more to post before the end of the weekend!

pants fitting is the new thorn in my side. so far, i've come to the conclusion that i have a short crotch depth & protruding buttocks (lol)... and i guess something else, because i still haven't perfected my muslin & i just finished #3. ugh.

the only thing keeping me trudging along with the muslins is that i know i can use the adjustments to alter future pants without so much grief. and also, it is giving me an excuse to use up all this wretched polyester i bought & hoarded for god knows why.

Ha ha!

Sounds like we've got similar builds.

I've basically given up on altering a pattern to fit right now. It's clearly beyond my skills at the moment, but I'm really hopeful that I will be able to duplicate these pants I bought so I don't have to spend a small fortune to have a work wardrobe.

Also, I bought a really really nice wool/cashmere blend that I want to use, so that's helping to keep me motivated.

Let me know how yours go!
